Rest and Work and Work Again (by Julie Sue)

Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy argues that “power posing” standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident can boost feelings of confidence, and might have an impact on our chances for success. (Note: Some of the findings presented in this talk have been referenced in an ongoing debate among social scientists about robustness and reproducibility. Read Amy Cuddy’s response here:

  1. All that Alpha talk has been disproven. It was based on relationships in wolves and even the guy who made the discovery has discredited it. I think she’s right on everything but calling everything Alpha is outdated

  2. She "teaches" people to be judgmental and shallow. Her "identity" is working at a "top" business school, faking her way through life.

She judges strangers on their appearance; she even admits it's more about projecting confidence than it is about content.

It's no wonder this world is shallow and cruel. Vile people like this prefer pretending to be happy in order to fake their way to the "top" instead of actually becoming happy.

By all means, put a pencil in your mouth and pretend you're happy for a minute. You might smile or laugh. That's not purposeful or lasting happiness. It's a brief dopamine kick that'll probably only happen the first one or two times you try the trick. I feel sorry for any person who needs to do this to "feel" "happy".

She's an empty person. Her self-esteem depends on other people's approval. That's why she's nervous.

  3. My rake aways from video is :
    1. Dont give up, fake it till you start believing in it
    2.Dont shrink, open up
3.Try power posing, in moment you feel less confident
    4. Dont let situation take control of your performance

  4. Her talk is about power posse, using her experience as an example. But unintentionally she shows her grit and perseverance through her story. That's what got me and I think a lot of audience. The standing ovation is not for her 'power posse' speech, but for the grit and perseverance that she shows.

  5. Great talk, loved the personal moment there at the end, it really made us all like her even more! She didn't tell us if she ever regained her IQ, or is she a university professor with a low IQ? Seems like I had a few…

  6. A wonderful life lesson can be learned here, fear cripples most of us and showing no fear without even speaking can change one's life forever, I speak from experience and showed no fear for at least 3 or 5 minutes of my life as I spoke in court, it changed how I looked and acted in front of other people that I thought were superior and better than me
