(1)乳果糖、乳梨醇：为肠道不吸收双糖，可降低肠道pH以减少肠道对氨的吸收。乳果糖被推荐为治疗肝性脑病的一线药物，其不良反应小，梨醇与乳果糖效果相当，甜度较低，初始剂量为0.6g/kg，分3次于就餐时服用，以每日2次软便为标准调整剂量。该类药物疗效确切，可有效改善肝硬化患者的肝性脑病或轻微肝性脑病，提高患者生活质量及改善患者存活率，且患者安全性高，可作为长期治疗用药。(2)口服抗生素：口服抗生素可减少肠道产氨细菌数量，以减少氨的吸收。既往曾用新霉素、甲硝唑、万古霉素等药物，但因其不良反应大及细菌耐药性等问题而限制了其使用，利福昔明是近来国际上被推荐使用的药物，其在肠道几乎不吸收，可广谱、强效地抑制肠道内细菌生长，且安全性较普通用氨基苷类抗生素低，使用剂量为每次400mg，每8小时1次，其可有效维持肝性脑病的长期缓解并预防其复发，改善轻微肝性脑病。
