Yeah I've recently noticed there are multiple ways to pronounce s/z, but couldn't find anybody mentioning it

/z/ vs /dz/, can you tell them apart? For example, "rose and roads", "grades and graze". I hope someone could elaborate on the difference between /z/ and /dz/ which are two separate phonems according to the oxford dictionary (using Daniel Jones Phonetic Symbols). Try to say “maids in the maze", then you might feel the subtle difference between "maids" and "maze"!
There're a lot of common words like these, and I just find it a bit weird to pronounce "kids" like "kiz", or "beds" like "bez", there seems to be a subtle distinction that defies explanation…

So how do I know the exact tongue tip position? I used to pronounce these only with my tongue tip down, which worked fine for me most of the time, except when it is followed by "t" like in "best". (I actually developed a habit of pronouncing the "t" sound with my tongue tip down because of this.)

Hi Rach, i'm still struggling with the "z", when I finish a word or sentence with z, it doesn't sound natural, is there any exercises or something i can use?
When she refers to the note that the "s" can make the "z" sound, she means that some words are pronounced with a "s" instead of a "z" like in the word "easy", instead of a "z" I hear a "s".
I wish she saw the comments and replied
