This is so underrated
The one problem I had with this Fate was that it didn’t really help the viewer understand anything. I didn’t get how the magic worked or they didn’t explain the identities of the heroic spirits so for half of the story I just watched whilst scratching my head here and there.
If I watched it now in chronological order I would definitely enjoy it more however I would miss the beautiful animation of Ufotable

Hands down the best opening theme to ANY Fate Series
It has this sort of Mystical Mystery around it, like you're delving into a Magician's Tome for the first time, being revealed to a whole new world beyond your own
This was the theme I NEEDED to hear to get into this series and it's a big part of what made me stick to it all those years ago, until today where the Fate series as a whole is one of my Favourite anime series of all time because of the stories, the action and even learning of Historical Figures I never learned about before
Better versions of Fate have come out, particularly the new Fate/Stay Night, but this will ALWAYS have a place in my heart

Still remember watching Shirou and Saber vs Berserker in college at 2am. I jumped up with joy seeing them defeat Berserker and survive. I missed the classes the next day but was completely worth it as it is my most cherished college memory!

This may have been a bad adaptation but I think its a good start to watching the series. It introduces you to the main story/plot and characters but it doesn't have enough information to spoil some of the stuff from other adaptations. I watched FZero after this and was quite surprised at some of the revelations. From what I hear, it seems the ufotable series spoil each other – you get spoiled about FZero if you watch UBW and yet the same happens vice versa.

This is definitely my favorite of the three versions of Fate/Stay Night. 1) I like the romance between Shiro and Saber as well as Saber's final scene with Bedivere after having destroyed the Holy Grail, 2) I think Archer was much more likeable as a character in this version and that he was a huge d-bag in Unlimited Blade Works by comparison, 3) This is the only version of the story where Illya doesn't die, and I especially did not enjoy watching her get brutally murdered by Gilgamesh in Unlimited Blade Works, and 4) Having started on this franchise by watching Fate/Zero first, I think it's most fitting that Kirei Kotomine would serve as the final antagonist alongside Gilgamesh in this version rather than being killed by Lancer to leave Gilgamesh as the sole final antagonist in Unlimited Blade Works. And no, I have not watched Heaven's Feel, and I don't particularly plan to because I read all I need to know about the films' events (which I found to be just a little too tragic for my taste) online.
